Copy disk and resize partition

By | November 18, 2014

Question: I’ve just bought a 1TB hard disk and want to replace the old 250GB disk with it. I know I can image old disk to the new with much copy software, but the question is how to resize partitions on the new disk so as to enlarge them during the process of copying disk. After all, all partitions on the old disk are just 250GB. Is there drive copy software available to copy disk and resize partition in one go?

Answer: the free drive clone software MiniTool Drive Copy can be chosen. It provides 3 schemes to resize partition when we are copying disk:

1. Fit partitions to entire disk: all partitions will be enlarged or decreased in proportion to take up all space on the new disk.
2. Copy partitions without resize: all partitions will be cloned to new disk without changing their size.
3. Copy partitions with minimum size: all partitions will be shrunk to the largest extent so as to release all free space.

Users just need to choose the most suitable one according to actual demands.

The very note just tells users how to boot computer from the new disk (do as it told when necessary). Then, click “Finish” button.

At last, click “Yes” to start copying disk and resizing partitions. Once all operations are completed, our work is done.
